Family Medicine/Sports Medicine Specialty

Chad Roghair, M.D.
Head Team Physician / Medical Director

Dr. Chad Roghair began his term as Head Team Physician / Medical Director at Saint Mary's College in the fall of 2005. Dr. Roghair comes to Saint Mary's after serving as an Associate Team Physician and Chief of Urgent Care at the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Roghair is a board certified Family Practitioner specializing in Sports Medicine. He previously held the position of Chief Physician at the University of California at Riverside. Chad has held faculty positions in both Sports Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UC Riverside, UC Davis, and Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. Roghair graduated from Princeton University, where he was named to the 1990's all-decade team as a quaterback. Following medical school at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, he completed his Family Residency Program and Sports Medicine Fellowship at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, California.

He has been a Sports Medicine News Consultant for KRON News in San Francisco, Medical Coordinator for the California Police and Fire Olympic Games, Medical Support Staff for Veteran Administration Golden Age Olympics and Team Physician for several Universities.

He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Association, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and the California Medical Association.

Dr. Roghair's personal interest includes spending time with his family, basketball, football, ice hockey, snow and water skiing.

Nancy Rolnik, M.D.

Dr. Nancy Rolnik is the newest team physician to join the St. Mary's athletic department and is excited to care for our athletes in all their healthcare needs. She believes athletes play a large role in their own healthcare. "Communication, understanding and cooperation between the athlete and team doctor are critical factors in sports medicine. Most athletes are highly motivated to return to the game as soon as possible, and I work with athletes to develop a plan that considers the needs particular to their sport balanced against the best interests of their long term health."

Dr. Rolnik attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago followed by a family practice residency at MacNeal Hospital and a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, California. Currently, Dr. Rolnik has a family medicine practice and runs the NorthBay Sports Medicine Program in Fairfield. Dr. Rolnik provided medical coverage for sporting events such as the Summer X-games, the CaliforniaMan, and the Chicago marathon and triathlon. In her free time, Dr. Rolnik enjoys hiking, scuba diving, skiing, cooking, and traveling.

Orthopaedics

David D. Lin, M.D
Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. David Lin assumed the role of Head Team Physician for Saint Mary's College athletics in December of 2004. Currently, Dr. Lin has moved into the role of Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and presently provides medical coverage for all home events for Saint Mary's College Athletics. Doctor Lin began practicing orthopaedic medicine after earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. His residency at Wright State University and fellowship in sports medicine at Kaiser, San Diego prepared him for numerous high school and university football physician positions including assistant team physician for the University of Dayton's football team and head team physician at Claremont High School, where his drive and dedication helped players speed healing and achieve maximum performance.

Dr. Lin applies the most up-to-date training daily to deliver innovative orthopaedic treatment designed for the modern day athlete. His enthusiasm and caring personality complements his expertise by adding a personal touch that is as comforting as it is healing. Furthermore, Dr. Lin's passion for sports and commitment to staying abreast of new techniques in the field allow him to personalize treatment for each patient's specific condition.

Dr. Lin currently practices orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in sports medicine at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists. Committed and focused, he has authored numerous presentations and publications on related topics including suprascapular nerve palsies and ligament injuries, and currently assists Saint Mary’s and De La Salle high schools with their sports programs.

Ramiro A. Miranda, M.D

Doctor Miranda began practicing orthopaedic medicine in 1986. A graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Miranda earned his Medical Degree from the University of California, San Francisco and served his internship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. His ensuing residency in orthopaedic surgery at UCSF gave him both the experience and the confidence necessary to deliver superior, cutting-edge treatment.

Dr. Miranda treats his patients and partners like extended family, and they have come to count on his friendly, yet direct, approach to treatment. He applies professionalism and honesty to all aspects of his practice, and his ability to counsel patients in both Spanish and English ensures they understand his analysis and can express their concerns without conflict.

Dr. Miranda currently practices general orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in sports medicine and total knee replacement at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists. As President of the group, he's gained the respect of his peers with his selfless commitment to improving patient care. Committed to the community, Dr. Miranda has also served as the Head Team Physician for St. Mary's College from 1985 to 2004.

Murali Moorthy, M.D.

A team physician of Saint Mary's College since 2004, Dr. Moorthy began practicing orthopedic medicine after earning his medical degree from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine and completing his residency at the USC Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Inspired by his father, a well-established cardiologist at Mt. Diablo and Sutter Delta, Dr. Moorthy continued his orthopedic training with a challenging foot and ankle fellowship at Harbor-UCLA/Balance Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center, where he excelled at delivering specialized orthopedic care.

Dr. Moorthy applies expertise in foot and ankle orthopedics, foot deformities, and sports injuries to effectively address work injuries and senior citizen conditions. Patients appreciate his good nature and attentiveness, and have come to rely on his honest evaluations. Committed and enthusiastic, he delivers realistic treatment programs designed to minimize discomfort and facilitate recovery.

Dr. Moorthy currently practices general orthopedic surgery with a special interest in foot and ankle orthopedics and sports medicine at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists. A local resident and Northgate High School alumnus, he shows continued commitment by offering state-of-the-art treatment to the community he calls home.

Dentistry

Scott H. Pope, DDS
Head Team Dentist

Dr. Scott Pope joined Saint Mary's College athletics as the Head Team Dentist in October of 2006. A preeminent professional in the field of restorative and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Pope enjoys the opportunity to provide sports dentistry for Saint Mary's athletics. Dr. Pope focuses on all aspects of dentistry. His practice, located in Walnut Creek, provides cosmetic, orthodontic, reconstructive, sedation, implant and general dentistry.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Dr. Scott Pope received his doctorate in dental surgery from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago. He has since accumulated more than 1,000 hours of advanced education, placing him among the best in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Pope has achieved post-doctoral certificates in Esthetic Dentistry from UCLA School of Dentistry and advanced orthodontic training from the Academy of Gp Orthodontics and is an Invisalign certified dentist.

Dr. Pope was the "Ask The Expert" dentist for KPIX Channel 5 television and KCBS News Radio in Contra Costa County from 1999 to 2001 and is a member of numerous reputable professional organizations, including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and Academy of Gp Orthodontics. Dr. Pope is also on the board of directors for the Contra Costa Dental Society and a Continuing Education Committee member.

Dr. Pope enjoys golfing, mountain biking, skiing, running and spending time with his family. He is also an avid wine collector.
