Entering his second season at Saint Mary’s is Eric Valenzuela. Valenzuela’s primary function will be to oversee the outfielders, will be the team’s third base coach and will assist with scouting and recruiting.

Valenzuela was a pitcher for the Pepperdine baseball team from 1999-01, after transferring from Arizona State. During his time with the Waves, Valenzuela was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams, one West Coast Conference Championship team and a team that won 36 or more games in his final three collegiate seasons.

Valenzuela made 32 appearances in his time at Pepperdine and had a 6-6 career mark with a 5.03 earned run average. He started 20 games for the Waves in his final two seasons and finished his career with 121.1 innings pitched. He had a career-high 10 strikeouts against the Gaels on March 18, 2000 and in his only collegiate at-bat, he hit a home run against Saint Mary’s in Moraga during the 2001 season.

A native of La Puente, California, Valenzuela was a three-time letterwinner at Bishop Amat High School where he posted a 26-3 overall mark. He had a 7-1 record his senior season and helped Bishop Amat capture the Southern Section CIF Division I championship. He was a First Team All-Southern Section CIF, All-San Gabriel Valley and Del Rey League Pitcher of the Year in 1996.

Valenzuela currently lives in Walnut Creek, California with head baseball trainer, Tim Podesta.
