Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of a high scoring affair Tuesday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. The Gaels fell to the Patten Lions 13-11 in seven innings to drop their third straight game. After the loss, SMC moves to 1-3 on the season.

The Saint Mary's freshman duo of Randy Wells and Kyle Jensen combined to knock in six runs. Jensen led SMC at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort with three RBIs while Wells batted 1-for-4 with three ribbies and two runs scored.

14 different pitchers were used in the seven inning game, nine different hurlers made an appearance for the Gaels.

Saint Mary's took a 7-4 lead on the strength of four runs in the bottom of the second but Patten erupted for eight runs in the sixth to take a commanding 13-8 lead.

The Gaels once again rallied back like they have all season long cutting the lead to the final margin of 13-11. SMC had the go-ahead run at the plate but were unable to finish the comeback effort.

Five Lions tallied a multi-hit game. Patten was led by Joseph Jennings and Oscar Ochoa. Jennings batted 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs while Ochoa added a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with three RBIs.

Saint Mary's senior Eric Cattoni batted 1-for-2 with three runs and two stolen bases. The fleet-footed outfielder now has five stolen bases in as many attempts to his credit. J.P. Musgrove batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
 

 

Saint Mary's will continue its non-conference slate with a home-away-home series with San Jose St. The weekend series will begin on Friday, February 2 at 2 p.m. from Louis Guisto Field.
