Sacramento, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team earned its second victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, beating Sacramento State 8-1 in seven innings in Sacramento, CA. The game was called after the top of the seventh inning due to rain with the Gaels holding a seven-run lead. With the win the Gaels improve to 2-5 on the season.

The Gaels were led by starting pitcher Joel Fountain, who picked up his first victory in a Saint Mary's uniform. Fountain pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out four batters.

Offensively, the Gaels were led by Orben Frederick, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Sam Carter went 1-for-4 with three RBI, Delaney Gallagher went 2-for-4, Preston Young hit a solo home run and Adam Thompson went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Saint Mary's scored two runs in the first inning, but Sacramento State answered with one run in the bottom of the first. The Gaels added one more run in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead and piled on five runs in the sixth inning for an 8-1 lead. After allowing one run in the first inning, Fountain was solid after that. The Gaels beat the Hornets 6-2 over a week ago for their first victory of the season.
