Box Score

Moraga, CA - Jordan Simo pitched a complete game, giving up one run on seven hits as the Saint Mary's baseball team defeated the California Golden Bears 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. The Gaels snapped an eight-game losing streak as they improved to 4-14 on the season. The Bears dropped to 9-11.

Simo gave up one run in the first inning after a lead off double by Allen Craig, and a double by David Weiner one batter later. After that Simo was outstanding, finishing the game with three strikeouts and one walk, while not allowing a hit in the eighth and ninth innings.

While Simo was shutting down the Bears, the Gaels scored two runs in the third inning, which proved to be enough for the victory. In the third, Stefan Foushee singled with one out to start the rally and then with two outs Gilbert Gil singled, followed by a RBI single by Mike Sansoe. With Gil on third, California pitcher Mike Padgett tried to pick off Sansoe at first and threw the ball out of play, allowing Gil to score for the go-ahead run.

In the game the Gaels were led offensively by Bryan Byrne, who went 2-for-2, Adam Bellows went 2-for-3 and Delaney Gallagher went 1-for-4.

The win improves Simo's record to 2-3 and lowers his earned run average to 4.99.

Saint Mary's will face Cal in the final game of the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, CA.
