Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team beat visiting Bethany College 11-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. With the win the Gaels improve to 12-15 on the season and return to West Coast Conference action on Friday, April 8 when they travel to Malibu to face Pepperdine at 3 p.m. The two teams will meet Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Saint Mary's started slowly against the Bruins, but opened up the game in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring four runs in each frame. The Gaels combined for 14 hits and held Bethany to three.

The Gaels received four solid innings pitched by Dan Lewis, who had eight strikeouts and picked up his first win in a Saint Mary's uniform. Allan Lobban pitched three innings, striking out six batters and Ryan Fischesser and Justin Sloan each pitched one shut out inning.


Offensively Bryan Byrne went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, Sam Carter went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and Mike Sansoe went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Jake Sanders came off the bench for a pinch hit double and an RBI, Tyler Selden added a hit and Adam Thompson went 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored coming off the bench.

The Gaels return to action on Friday, April 8 when they face Pepperdine at 3 p.m. in Malibu, CA.
