Final Stats

Moraga, CA - Two late homeruns by the Saint Mary's baseball team lifted the Gaels to a 6-4 victory over the UC Davis Aggies on Wednesday, April 23, on Louis Guisto Field. With the win SMC improves to 17-22-1, while the Aggies fall to 26-17 on the season.

The Gaels had runners on first and second after a walk and a UC Davis error at the start of the bottom of the first inning. Bryan Byrne then connected on a single to score Gilbert Gil and advance Delaney Gallagher. Gallagher would later score on a Sam Battle sacrifice to give SMC a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
 

 

The Aggies cut SMC's lead in half in the the third inning on a Ryan Coultas single to score Matt Blankenheim.

Stephan Foushee led off the fourth inning with a double to start a Gael rally. With two outs, Gil scored Foushee on a single to centerfield to give SMC a 3-1 lead.

The Aggies took the lead in the sixth inning as Matt Kamagachi started the rally with a triple to right field. David Butterworth would collect an RBI on a single and would later score on a Dustin Soderman single. Josh Behrens would also collect an RBI single to give the Aggies a 4-3 lead.

SMC's Preston Young would help the Gaels tie up the score in the bottom of the sixth inning with his second homerun, a solo shot, of the season.

The Gaels regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run homerun to left field by Adam Bellows to give SMC a 6-4 advantage. It was Bellows' fourth homerun of the season, which leads the team.

In his first appearance of the season, Tom Carroll (1-0) earned his first career victory after throwing 2.2 scoreless innings. UC Davis' Peter Soskin (0-1) tallied his first loss of the season after giving up a two-run homerun in the seventh inning. Dane Dobrinich earned his first save of the year in relief.

The Gaels will return to West Coast Conference action on Friday, April 25 when they host the San Francisco Dons. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Louis Guisto Field.
