Box Score

Coral Gables, FL - The Hurricanes offense left any doubt how this series would finish as the University of Miami (39-5) scored 15 runs on 17 hits as they defeated Saint Mary's (22-22-1) by a final score of 15-3, sweeping the Gaels Sunday afternoon.

On the mound for the Gaels was freshman Justin Kuks (0-4) who struggled early, getting roughed up for seven runs in the first two innings. On the day Kuks went four complete, giving up nine hits, nine runs, six earned, three walks and four strike outs. A costly error in the bottom of the first extended the inning for Miami and allowed to effectively put the game out of reach for the Gaels when Hurricanes left fielder Adan Severino doubled down the left field line knocking in three RBI's, putting Miami ahead for good 4-0.

Offensively Saint Mary's could do little against the Hurricane pitching, senior Kenny Fuglerud remains hot and was the player of the series for the Gaels as he collected his third multi-hit game in the series. Fuglerud went 2-for-3 scoring two runs and hitting his seventh double of the season.

The Gaels first got on the board in the top of the third when Fuglerud lead off the inning with a bunt single, and advanced to second on his 10th stolen base of the season. A wild pitch on ball four to Kyle Jensen advanced Fuglerud to third. Fuglerud would go on to score off a groundball to the third baseman from Ryan Mulligan to make the score 7-1.

On the mound for the Hurricanes was senior Enrique Garcia (4-1) who earned his fourth win of the season after going five complete, while giving up eight hits, three runs, all earned, three walks and striking out four.

The Gaels had their chances against Garcia but could not manage to get the crucial two out hit as the Gaels went just 3-for-10 wit runners on and two outs.

The Gaels pulled with in six following a two run top of the fifth, following an RBI single from Jensen that scored Fuglerud, and a single up the middle from Mulligan that scored Cory Miller.

The Hurricanes ended all hopes of a late inning rally however, as they scored five insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh all off reliever Dorsey Ek.

The Gaels will return home to play their final home game of the season as they host San Jose State on Tuesday, May 6th. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
