Moraga, CA- Saint Mary's senior pitcher Corey Madden (Anchorage, AK) was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 21st round in the Major League Baseball Draft. With the 635th pick, the Marlins picked the West Coast Conference honorable mention selection.

The senior, who was picked in the 45th round last season by the Chicago Cubs, took advantage of another season at the college ranks. Madden was one of the top pitchers in the conference combining a hard fastball with a sharp slider.

Madden was remarkable all season, solidifying the Saturday starting spot for the Gaels. The Anchorage native sported a 3.30 ERA and a 6-2 record with 76 Ks in 84.2 innings overall. In WCC play Madden posted a 3.65 ERA and a 3-1 record with a complete game.

Madden was fourth in the WCC in Ks and fifth in innings pitched during WCC play. His .250 opposing batting average was sixth overall and he ranked eighth in Ks (31) during conference. The senior struck out 10 or more three times which included an 11 punch out performance in 5.2 innings against Southern Utah.
