Moraga, CA- Saint Mary's baseball signee Sean Gleason (La Junta, CO) was drafted in the 25th round with the 763 pick by the Boston Red Sox in the 2006 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. The Lamar Community College standout joins former Gaels Corey Madden and Joel Fountain as players selected in the June draft.

"I am excited to come to California and play for Saint Mary's," Gleason said. "The program is on the rise and I hope to be able to come in and be an impact player."

Gleason finished his sophomore campaign at Lamar in impressive fashion. The 6-0, 190 right-hander was a First-Team Region IX and First-Team Empire Conference selection. The La Junta native fanned 113 batters in 92 innings and finished with an 11-3 record and a 4.11 ERA.

Gleason set the Runnin' Lopes career strikeout record with 175 Ks and broke the single season record in innings pitched with 92. The sophomore led Lamar to a Region IX Tournament title and a 43-15-1 record.

"We are very excited that Sean will be attending Saint Mary's," head baseball coach Jedd Soto said. "We think Sean has good enough stuff to excel right away in our program."

In 2005, Gleason was instrumental in the Runnin' Lopes posting a final ranking of fourth in the nation among junior college teams. Lamar captured the Empire Conference title along with the Region IX Tournament championship, posting a 51-12 mark.

Gleason caught the attention of the Red Sox with his 91-94 mph fastball with a plus curve and above average changeup. Gleason will play in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League this summer in Pueblo, CO before attending Saint Mary's in the Fall.
