Moraga, CA - Last week, the Saint Mary's Men's Basketball team teamed up with former Gael women's basketball point guard Danielle Ferris, who is a teacher at Sunrise Elementary in Concord, to provide a learning experience for youth in the Concord area. As part of the Sixth Annual Gael Reading Program, Gael senior Blake Sholberg, sophomore Ron White, and freshman Omar Samhan spoke to several students enrolled in Sunrise Elementary's summer session.

In addition to speaking with the children on the various life-skills necessary to one-day attend college and be successful, the players helped teach a planned lesson on the country of France and assisted the children in making maps of the nation.

The Gael Reading Program, which head coach Randy Bennett established in his first year in Moraga, will resume during the fall semester with trips to other local elementary schools in the East Bay.
