Schmid joins the Gaels' staff and brings with him extensive collegiate playing and coaching experience. Schmid led the UCLA Bruins to the 2002 National Championship and was a four-year letterwinner at the collegiate level.

Schmid began his coaching at South High School in Torrance, CA and was the head coach of the South Bay Soccer Club.

At South High School, Schmid helped the Spartans earn back-to-back league championships.

Schmid also worked for Nike as a Tour Manager where he managed overall onsite operations and marketed Nike Soccer to thousands of youth across the nation.

His coaching tree includes his father Sigi Schmid, who is the head coach of the Columbus Crew. Sigi managed the Los Angeles Galaxy for six years and was the head coach at UCLA for 18 seasons.
