San Diego, CA - In the second round of the West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships, Saint Mary's was defeated by the No. 1 seeded Pepperdine Waves 4-0 on Saturday. Andrea Zannoni was the only player from the No. 5 seeded Gaels' roster to win a set against the Waves.

The match opened with Pepperdine taking the doubles point by winning both the no. 2 and no. 3 doubles matches by scores of 8-5. The doubles match at no. 1 was not completed due to the no. 2 and no. 3 matches going Pepperdine's way.

IN the singles side, only Andrea Zannoni picked up a set against the Waves. Zannoni, play at the no. 6 singles position, won the second set 6-4 after dropping the first set 6-3. Pepperdine's Mahmoud Kamel closed out the Gaels by winning the third set against Zannoni 6-0.

The first singles win for Pepperdine came when Omar Altmann defeated Yuri Platonov 6-2 and 6-2 at the no. 5 singles position. Pepperdine's James Lemke defeated Achim Christner 6-2, 6-0 at the no. 6 singles position to give the Waves the match and advancing to the championship match on Sunday.

Saint Mary's will battle Bay Area rival Santa Clara on Sunday to decide third place in the conference standings. Saint Mary's and the Broncos will take the courts at 12:30 on Sunday afternoon at the University of San Diego tennis courts.
