3/28/08 Women's Basketball 2007-08 Recap Moraga, CA - The 2007-08 Saint Mary's women's basketball team made great strides this season, improving their RPI by 56 spots from last year, and finishing at 127. In addition to lowering their RPI, the Gaels participated in a much stronger West Coast Conference, as the WCC finished as the eighth strongest Division I conference.
San Diego, CA - Saint Mary's women's basketball was unable to advance to the WCC Championship, as Gonzaga displayed why they were named the regular season champs, topping the Gaels 84-61. With the loss Saint Mary's finishes the season 15-17 overall, 6-8 in the regular season, and 1-1 in the WCC tournament.
This Week in Saint Mary's Basketball... March Madness has begun for the Gaels, as they traveled to San Diego, CA to participate in the 2008 West Coast Conference Tournament. Saint Mary's will fight for a bid to the NCAA tournament, needing three consecutive wins to capture the WCC Tournament Title. After finishing the WCC regular season with a 6-8 record, Saint Mary's earned a five seed in the tournament, facing LMU in their first round game. The Gaels defeated the Lions in a close match-up, eventually topping LMU 71-67.
