Lake Natoma - On the first day of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, the Saint Mary's women's rowing team competed in five events, which included the varsity and second varsity eight, varsity four, novice eight, and novice four.

The varsity four advanced to Sunday's grand final after posting a first place finish in its heat race on Saturday. The varsity four boat pulled to a time of 7:37.5 on the 2K race, which was the second fasted time in the three heat races.

After posting a third place finish with a time of 7:19.9 in its heat race, the novice eight advanced to the Saturday afternoon's petite final. The Gaels novice eight pulled a time of 7:05.8 to win the petite final, crossing the finish line five second ahead of San Diego.

The varsity eights competed in the DI/Open flight and fifth in their heat with a time of 7:19.9. The time was good enough for seventh overall and a berth in the petite finals on Sunday morning.

The second varsity eight also advanced to the petite finals after pulling to a time of 7:22.9 in their heat.

The novice four also had a good performance by winning their heat against six other schools. The novice four pulled a time of 7:33.2, which was the fast preliminary time of the 14 schools in the competition. The novice four will also compete in the grand final on Sunday.
