Gold River, CA - At the Head of the American Regatta, the Saint Mary's women's rowing team entered four boats. The lightweight four earned a gold medal, the varsity eight posted a eighth place finish, the varsity four posted a 13th place finish, and the novice eight completed their race in 10th place.

SMC's highlight at the Head of the American was the gold medal won by the lightweight four. In a three-boat race, the SMC team completed the race in a time of 20:30, finished 41 seconds ahead of Santa Clara and two minutes ahead of third place Pacific. The first place finish is the first of the 2007-08 season for the Saint Mary's rowing team.

In the varsity eight race, Saint Mary's pulled a time of 18:41 and finished eighth in the 18-boat race. In the varsity eight race, three teams from the West Coast Conference were entered. Gonzaga finished third with a time of 17:52, while Santa Clara finished 13th with a time of 20:38.

In a field that included 17 boats, the varsity four boat posted a 13th place finish, crossing the line of the 2,000-meter race in a time of 21:28. The final boat that competed for the Gaels was a novice eight, which posted a 10th place finish out of 15 entries in the race. The novice eight boat completed the race in a time of 23:28.
