Sacramento, CA- This Saturday women's rowing competed in the Head of the American Regatta held at Sacramento State Aquatic Center. Both novice and varsity took part in the races and both had strong finishes. Novice finished 5 of 11 in the Collegiate 8 event, with a time of 21:51. Varsity competed in the women's open 8 event and finished 12 of 17, with a time of 19:03. This was only 2:01 off of the time of the collegiate champion Cal "A" boat (16:58).

The novice team did extremely well in their first regatta of the season. Considering many of the novice members are freshman, they had a strong showing for their first collegiate appearance.

Both Saint Mary's teams had solid performances, competing along-side top schools such as California and Stanford. Head races in the fall are difficult but Saint Mary's did well despite the pressure. Head coach Pasha Spencer stated, "Both boats did well and this will only help set goals for the spring and set the pace for winter training."

Women's rowing will not resume competition until spring at the Sacramento Invitational on February 28.
